“BLUE OCEAN DOME” Field Visit Report

On January 24, 2025, we visited BLUE OCEAN DOME, which is being constructed in preparation for the opening of the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai.

Dome A features a beautiful frame made of Japanese bamboo-a sustainable building material-and natural sunlight shines in softly during the daytime. The dome, which has the theme of “circulation,” will be equipped with “ultra-water-repellent, giant three-dimensional art pieces” that depict the circulation of water, making it an even more attractive space.

The “ocean” themed Dome B that appears when you go through a tunnel-like passage from Dome A. A giant spherical high-definition LED screen will be set up in the center of the dome. The entire video work will be produced in full CG. In this video, a jet-black theater space will soon be completed that will provide an unprecedented sense of immersion, expressing “the earth where the pollution of the sea and the brilliance of life collide”.

In the construction of Dome C, which is themed on “Wisdom,” paper tubes are used as structural materials to reduce weight while maintaining strength. In the future, event stages and audience seats will be set up in the dome, where elaborate construction techniques stand out, and events such as lectures by partner companies and workshops for children will be held as “BLUE OCEAN STUDIO”. It will be a base for disseminating information to the world about “sustainable use of marine resources and protection of marine ecosystems”.

As the pavilion that disseminates the message of ocean conservation, construction is steadily progressing with innovative building technologies for a sustainable future. We hope you will continue to look forward to “BLUE OCEAN DOME” as we prepare for the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai.
