This planet on which we live contains sacred
mysteries that still lie beyond the grasp of even the
most advanced science: the cosmos, Earth, all living
things, and the oceans that bring forth an endless
chain of life. Here, you will be able to connect with
Earth, our water planet. The BLUE OCEAN DOME
installation showcases ultrahydrophobicity*, offering
a whole new way to experience water. The oceans
hold about 97% of Earth’s water. This colossal
spherical theater depicts little-known aspects of the
seas, as well as the true state of plastic pollution. How
might this profound encounter with Earth reshape
our vision of the future?

PAVILION
The BLUE OCEAN DOME theme is “Revitalization of the Ocean.” Declining reef habitats, rising sea temperatures, catastrophic effects of global warming, and plastic pollution are just some of the crises impacting our oceans. Painstakingly portraying issues and challenges that face our Blue Planet, we reassess these relationships in the context of big concepts—the earth, the universe, life, and environment—in a manner that dramatically awakens eco-consciousness.
EVENT
BLUE OCEAN STUDIO
Dome C (Wisdom) hosts events such as international symposiums, lectures, and workshops that work toward the realization of ocean conservation and prosperity, produced through co-creation by social innovators worldwide. By facilitating access to state-of-the-art themes concerning the ocean, this zone engages visitors intellectually, providing experiences that are both fascinating and rewarding.
SDGs EVENING TALKS
Dome C (Wisdom) hosts talks where companies, startups, and NPOs/NGOs present their latest initiatives toward achieving the objectives of the SDGs for 2030.
BLUE OCEAN FES.
We are collaborating with FM802 to organize a music festival at Matsuri, the Expo Arena, on Sunday June 8, 2025. This all-day Blue Ocean Festival features musical performances by artists who love the sea, along with opportunities to experience food, drinks, and art that make the sea more familiar.
We are seeking sponsorship from companies and organizations that wish to speak, exhibit, and promote themselves at the above events.
VR PAVILION
The BLUE OCEAN DOME virtual venue takes participants on virtual adventures among the turtles and fish. Try to solve some of the mysteries of the sea and the issues that arise.

ZERI JAPAN
ZERI JAPAN is a Non-Profit Organization established in 2001 to realize a circular society through environmental education and practice, industrial cluster building, technical guidance to the member companies. We hold the ZERI (Zero Emissions Research and Initiative) concept as a starting point, which aims to recycle the resources and energy, and finally reduce waste to zero.
Yusuke Saraya
Yusuke Saraya was born in 1951. He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Osaka University in 1974. In addition, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1975 with a Master’s degree in sanitary engineering. Saraya joined Saraya Co., Ltd. in 1976. He was appointed President and Representative Director in 1998. He has served as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Japan and chairman of the Global Citizen Foundation. He received the Medal with Blue Ribbon in 2010 and the Shibusawa Eiichi Award in 2014.
Inheriting the philosophy of the “Osaka Blue Ocean Vision” achieved by the G20 in 2019, ZERI Japan will present the Blue Ocean Dome as a private pavilion, aiming to ① prevent plastic marine pollution, ② develop a sustainable marine industry, and ③ promote the understanding of ocean climate change, thinking and acting together with people and companies from all over the world to find solutions to these issues.
During the Expo, this movement and its exhibitions will not be confined to the venue, as we plan various events inside and outside of it to communicate our plans and activities to help solve the pollution challenge. We are looking forward to the participation of people, companies, and organizations from all over the world.
Shigeru Ban
Shigeru Ban, who studied architecture in the US, is known for his use of materials such as paper tubes and shipping containers, and for his work in disaster relief. In 2014, he was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize, followed in 2017 by Japan’s Medal with Purple Ribbon and by becoming the first Japanese recipient of the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice. In 2022, he received the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord for his contribution to disaster relief in Ukraine.
Historically, world expo pavilion architecture has essentially been a testing ground for new architectural ideas, structures, and materials. Unfortunately, in recent years, most pavilions have been a “play of shapes,” showcasing architectural designs and forms that depend on computer technology. BLUE OCEAN DOME introduces novel and unprecedented materials and structures. It serves as a platform for Japan to share cutting-edge technology and integrate it into society’s foundation. By using three materials that are strong, light and highly recyclable–paper, bamboo, and CFRP [Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers]–we have reduced the building’s weight and constructed it without driving a single pile. We leveraged the construction requirements of exposition pavilions–temporary construction and limited timelines–to create innovative architectural solutions. The pavilion significantly minimizes construction waste and can be easily dismantled, relocated, and reused.
Kenya Hara
Kenya Hara provides multifaceted design direction utilizing Japanese tradition and aesthetics as future resources. He emphasizes the design of both objects and experiences, and has built a strong international reputation. A documentary on his activities produced by Singapore TV won gold and silver awards at the “New York Festivals International TV & Film Awards.”
Astronauts describe a profound shift in perspective when they view Earth from space. As they gaze at our life-giving blue planet suspended in the endless black void of the universe, the staggering distances between stars underscore the miraculous nature of Earth’s very existence. Seeing Earth as a tiny sphere from this great distance fills them with an overwhelming longing to return. If we could give you a similar view of Earth, we might spark the same profound shift in consciousness that astronauts feel. The theme of this pavilion is “Reviving the Ocean.” While vividly depicting the problems facing our planet–CO2 fixation, marine resource conservation and plastic pollution–we hope to dramatically awaken people to environmental morality by reexamining the relationships between these elements from the perspective of larger concepts, like Earth, Universe, Life, and Environment.
